A selection of wines selected for us by our friend, and Faversham based Master of Wine, Clive Barlow.
New - Chardonnay Ekuò Cielo e Terre, Verona, Italy - we were surprised how light this unoaked Chardonnay is. Straw yellow in colour with a flowery peach taste. Organically produced. £8.50.
Paso de la Capula, Verdejo, Rueda, Spain 2019 - clear straw colour, floral, gooseberry and apple aromas and peachy fruit flavours, 'accessible', un-oaked and fruit driven with a fresh, rounded character. Great with seafood, salad, omelette, a light cheese board (thinking Manchego style or, closer to home, Canterbury Cheesemakers Kelly's Goat, and quince paste) - or on its own! £8
Les Acacias, Sauvignon Blanc, Guy Allion, Loire, France 2018 - pale yellow with green glints with fresh citrus, elderflower and woody aromas from a maker led by environmental quality and economic and social sustainability. We're thinking summer days and light lunches in the garden. £9.50
French Ambush Viognier, Languedoc Roussillon 2018 - the tasting notes say chic and classy like the red beret - wearing lady on the label. We say a bit like the ladies in the kitchen too... Seriously though we love this Viognier. Think floral on the nose - honeysuckle and lily - and very mediterranean French. We're dreaming of a glass or two of this sitting on a veranda overlooking the sea with olives and a salad nicoise... £9.50
Domaine Cabrials, French Ambush Rosé, Langeudoc Roussillon 2018. Straight from Provence and full of sunshine, light and berry fruit. Pale in colour, refreshing and very drinkable (apparently)... Bring on the barbecue. £ 9.50
New - Malbec Camarada, Mendoza, Argentina - Full-bodied and rounded palate with red fruit flavours and hints of black pepper. We were promised 'everything we'd expect from a good Malbec' - and they were right! £9.50
Domaine de Cabrials Pinot Noir, Languedoc-Roussillon 2017 - a bit heavier and more 'mediterranean' than your usual Pinot Noir. Think cherries, liquorice and pepper. We loved it. Organic. £10.00
Il Folle, Nero d' Avola, Sicily 2018 - grown organically by a group of local growers. Il Folle means 'wild and gregarious joker' (apparently) and 'embodies the warm southern character...' full bodied and aromatic. Think vanilla, blackberry liqueur. Good with rich pastas and grilled meats. £8
Villa Enzo, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Italy 2018 - ruby red with vivid aromas of red fruit - think cherries - soft tannins and crisp acidity. 'Approachable' and great with Mediterranean dishes and grilled meats. Parmigiana, Moussaka, Finnocchio Sausages, Charcuterie Board would all be great partners for this one. Vegan. £8
Terre di Montelusa, Primitivo, Puglia, Italy 2018 - full of sunshine and southern Italian character apparently...! If this was a man we'd like to meet him. Medium bodied with a touch of spice (definitely). Deep ruby red with a soft texture and velvety finish. Great with tomato based sauces, ragu and hard cheeses (Canterbury Cheesmakers Cheeseboard anyone?). Vegan. £8.50
Chinchero Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina 2018 - 'briary fruit, more beardy, less clean shaven and more fun (than some aged Malbecs)' says the revue... we say we're definitely up for a date. Great with steak, grilled meats and heavier pasta dishes. Certified organic and vegan. £11
