Parsi FridayFeast - Easy Dhal Recipe

We loved the dhal from our recent Parsi Friday Feast Menu and it's really easy to make at home.  There's a few minutes of prep and the rest of the time is spent on the hob.  Here's the leftovers with brown rice.  And recipe below!

Ingredients:

200g of red lentils

1/2 teaspoon of ground turmeric

1/2 teaspoon of salt 

1 green chilli - optional

1 onion - quartered

1 litre of water - more if you want it runnier/ more like a soup

----

60g butter, ghee or olive oil

1/2 teaspoon of cumin seeds

3 gloves of garlic minced

half finely chopped onion

How To

Rinse the lentils and put into a saucepan. Add turmeric, salt, onion, chilli and water.  Bring to the boil, reduce heat to a simmer and cook until the lentils are tender (45-60 minutes).  When it is mushy pass it through a sieve or whizz with a stick blender.  

Heat butter in a pan, put in the cumin, garlic and onion until they are sizzling. Put on top of dhal.
